Episode 1 - Still Waters
Hi all. For my inaugural episode of Demos With Ian I’m excited to share a brand new song called Still Waters. This song is a meditation on being human, contributing to the legacy of human history, and living within the mysterious beauty of the physical world. The song starts with the Latin proverb “still waters run deep” and carries that idea into three vignettes:
1. The journey of our spirit through the deeper channels of time and space, of undying energy and the human experience.
2. To an abandoned rural church in North Carolina, swallowed by kudzu, where the voices of the congregation have long since gone silent, but where the power of their faith and wonder echo through history.
3. To modern science, where our at once limited and ever-expanding human knowledge and perception grapples with the same mysteries those long-ago Baptists sought answers to.
Still Waters represents a lot of my spiritual beliefs and awe and I hope it brings some joy and comfort into your lives in this strange moment we’re all living through.
