Is There Anyone Out There is the brain child of Ian in 2010, after the disillusionment of the 2009 financial crisis left him feeling angry and alone.
In the earliest incarnation of the song the band explored a call and response version that would include an outro where Ian would say Is There Anyone Out There? And the band would yell Say yes! and then the audience would yell Yes!
The song then fully took shape in pre-production for the album at The Windover House. The band added horns for an epic apocalyptic sound. They presented the new sound live at Carolina Theater in Summer of 2012 with a local North Carolina horn section.
The recording got such great reaction from the label it was selected to be the second single and actually was printed on stickers of the pressed CD distributed by Warner.
The band made an epic music video in North Carolina with hundreds of community members, but the final product got shelved by the label, which also seemed to stifle the song’s future potential as a single.
