Episode 11 - Temperance
Hey Witches! This month, our card is Temperance, a fluid card, advocating for the strength of the middle path and blending opposite energies. I paired this song with the chillest song of The Light: Soft Place to Land. When Temperance comes up in your reading it’s evoking the power of balance. When you pull this card in a reading think about how we can pull ourselves to center and create enough space to hold the whole. Could we open our minds to new thoughts and perspectives? Where can we bring peace and flow instead of force and resistance? How can we manage emotions so we don’t tip toward depression or anxiety? As we know all too well, the adherence to binaries has been destabilizing for families, neighbors, states, and nations always and forever. Unwavering adherence to extreme views pushes people further from mutual understanding. Imagine a world where healthy, safe love between strong people, free of the limits set by traditional ideas of gender was accepted? What if our self expression was as limitless as our capacity to think and feel? What if we had equity and understanding between people groups? That’s a world of Temperance. And if you need help remembering this card, let our song remind you: we can be fierce and loving, strong and soft, determined and flexible, wise and learning, ready and patient AND best of all we can love each other better that way.
Once again, to keep diminishing any barrier to entry you might feel, I think you might need an easy way to get to know your tarot decks. So rather than learning a new spread, I want to invite you to reflect on all we’ve learned so far from the cards themselves. When I got my first tarot deck as a kid I had no idea what they meant or how to read them, so I would sit in my room alone, light candles and lay the cards out in front of me. The images and meanings felt somewhat scary and certainly esoteric, but as I’ve dug into the origins of the deck and spent more time with the symbolism, I realize how much the themes affect my every day life. I paired each song on our sister albums with a card because I always learn better using music as an aid. Now I want to invite you to put on The Light. As each song comes up, pick up the card that correlates to that song and reflect on the lyrics you hear, the image you see in the card, and what they mean to you all together. This is a chance to get to know your cards as friends, as guides, and as mirrors. I’m so grateful for the opportunity this project has given me to share with you, hear some of your revelations, and learn about myself too. I love y’all and I’ll see you soon for our final episode of Tarot Reading with Brittany.
