Episode 6 - The Empress

Hey Witches. I can’t believe we are halfway through The Light Arcana. It’s been an anchor to create these episodes every month and a significant source of joy for me to share my passion with you all. Thank you for watching and participating. I hope as we enter the new year, I can empower you even more to channel the magic within you. The Empress is our last card of 2020, so please join me in imagining this force of feminine power, nature, and rest as the Ghost of Christmas Present, a jovial spirit inviting you into abundance and asking you to make the most of right now. Often we lose ourselves in the bustle of a prescribed life. GO GO GO! Jump through the hoops of school, work, marriage, family, mortgage, retirement… congratulations, your life is over and nowwww you can enjoy yourself. No! Enjoy today, find the beauty. In the mirror, in the world, in your own creations. Take off your shoes, put your feet on solid ground and remember that you are part of the heartbeat of all living things. Just like the song we’ve paired with this card, Back To The Garden, The Empress asks us to reconnect with nature, rejoice in creation, and take care of ourselves. We’ve only got one life.

The Christmas Carol Spread is simple but always gives me my most profound lessons. I debated a Yule spread, a Full Moon spread, and a New Year’s spread, but Eric asked me instead to think about what the most important touchstone has been for me with tarot, and to share that with y’all. I thought that seemed like a great idea. The Christmas Carol Spread is a three card reading that reflects the energies of our Past, Present, and Future. I named it such to be fun, but you can do this spread any time and apply it to any question or sector of life, or you can read it in the most general possible way. This is a spread that will help you hone in on the meanings of each individual card so that in more complex spreads you feel familiar and comfortable with the symbolism and messages when a card comes up. Another bit of advice I will give is to limit your deck, if you work with the full major AND minor arcana you are going to consult your books or internet as teachers for the long haul instead of personalizing and internalizing the meanings. But if you start by just reading the Major Arcana, you will have much fewer cards to hold in your mind, consider giving yourself that gift as you learn. The New Year is dawning and if you’re looking for a ritual with which to honor yourself, this is eye/mind/heart opening for both the new seeker and the seasoned witch. I hope it serves you well.
