Episode 7 - Judgement
Hey Witches, New year, New Leaders, New Opportunities to use our magic for good. May the gods have mercy on our soul, because the first card of 2021 is Judgement, which we, very auspiciously paired with our protest song only in America. Only In America is a protest song using a seemingly patriotic refrain to advocate for conscious change, acknowledging the shadows of our past and the work that lies ahead to live up to the promise of the American ideals of equality and justice. In turn, the Judgement card calls us to open our eyes and ears to our greater calling, serve a higher good, and transition into a new way of being. How will we be judged? Did we earn our place on the right side of history? We stand on the shoulders of those who heeded a higher calling and sacrificed for a greater good. Which begs the question, who are WE? What will we DO? Time to listen to the call, take action, serve a purpose, sacrifice what needs sacrificing and don’t let fear hold us back. Say hallelujah for the ways we’ve grown, we’ve still got a long way to go…
Be The Change Spread
We’ve all heard the phrase: “be the change you wish to see in the world.” That’s cool. But HOW?! When you’re overwhelmed with the weight of the universe calling and you’re not sure how to answer, try this spread to unlock where your energy may best be put to use. Look to the cards to give you insight into: Your Truth: what you believe to be true and how your truth motivates you. (If you’re struggling with how the card fits an activist context, pay attention to the elemental nature of the card to find clues.) Your Fear: what holds you back from upholding your truth and fighting for it? How can you work to over come your fear? Your Sacrifice: can you give or give up something to better heed your calling? Your Teacher: who can you follow, research, and amplify to learn and grow more? Your Strength: what energy should you bring to best be of service? Your Move: what’s the next right thing to do? The foundational text of alchemy is called The Emerald Tablet, and one of it’s most heralded lines reads in effect: As above, so below and so below, as above. This Hermetic wisdom may be talking about stardust and soil being one in the same or it may be talking about individual spirit mirroring the collective life force… Either way, it helps me remember that what we cultivate within, we cultivate in our families, our communities, our culture, and our world. So if we want to see the world change, we better be willing to start with ourselves.
